Jiraiya is the protagonist in the play Yaemusubi Jiraiya monogatari. Until now the print could not be linked to an actual performance of the play starring Ebizō V as Jiraiya.

This is the earliest of two versions. It has a decorated border at top and bottom, imitating the brocade bands of cloth that are known from the mount of scroll paintings, and has clouds and a full moon in the background.
